Crafts
Traditional crafts like woodworking, bookbinding, leatherworking, ceramics and 3D printing form a significant part of my product design skillset. I modify existing objects when convenient, and craft from scratch if it makes more sense for the use case. Embellishing a plain object with painted motifs or 3D printed appliques makes for a more visually interesting object in a world of plain things. I craft things mostly for myself and friends, with occasional commissions, avoiding production at scale and maintaining the love and connection for each individual object that comes through my hands.
Sometimes I write up the making process in my newsletter, which comes out a few times a year, and is wrapped in a cozy fantasy setting with an everchanging castle, animate bowls and a family of starlings living under the roof of the tower.
